When was the last time you felt you had a great day? When was the last time you got up feeling rejuvenated & cheerful and came back to bed at night feeling satisfied with the day that passed by? Well, if you have to think for this long to recall your great day, read on!
What if I tell you, you don’t have to leave the destiny of you day to chance? There’s science behind having a great day! You can actually have control over the momentum of each day and convert it into a great one.
Presenting to you, 14 ways to have a GREAT day, everyday
Right attitude : “The only difference between a good day and a bad day is your ATTITUDE.” As you can’t have a good day with a bad attitude, you can’t have a bad day with a good attitude. A great attitude becomes a great mood. A great mood translates into a great day!
Give up negative thoughts : You can’t litter negativity everywhere and wonder why you have a trashy life. Isn’t it? Negative thoughts will hold you back, weigh you down and drain your energy. “A negative thinker sees a difficulty in every opportunity, while a positive thinker sees an opportunity in every difficulty.” Choose your category wisely.
Be kind & compassionate : To be kind is more important than to be right. A pure heart that listens is more important than a brilliant mind that speaks. Be kind towards every single being around you. Anyone can be polite to a king but it takes a real gentle soul to be polite to a beggar. “No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted.”
Smile : Our brain cannot differentiate between a genuine smile and a forced one. Every time we smile, we fool our brain into thinking that we’re happy. Keep smiling! Its’ contagious, will make everyone around you happy. (Also, it makes us more attractive :P)
Go out of your way and do something worthwhile : Make that extra effort in making a difference and improving the world, without expecting anything in return, because then it would be a business deal. You exist, therefore, make your existence worthwhile. Plant trees or help that homeless old woman on that street you pass by daily or help that child on the signal with his/her education or provide clothes and food to someone less fortunate. It really does feel good.
Be grateful : “When you start each day with a grateful heart, light illuminates from within.” Be grateful for small things, big things and everything in between. Count your blessing. Be grateful to all the obstacles for they have strengthened you. After all, Gratitude is the best attitude.
Have a healthy breakfast : A healthy breakfast gets you right on track, keeps you fit and energised to embark on a great journey each day. A healthy breakfast helps you make healthy decisions. There’s absolutely nothing you can do to make up for the mistake of not eating breakfast in the morning.
Listen to good music : Why do people listen to an upbeat melody when they exercise or play a lullaby to get their baby to fall asleep? Because music influences our mental state. Music is a vibration. If you listen to music at a lower vibration, it lessens your energy and vigour. Increase your energy by listening to something that vibrates at a higher frequency. Such an effortless approach to a great mood. Isn’t it?
Exercise : It not only changes our body, it changes our mind, our attitude and our mood. Exercise releases endorphins, which makes us happy. Happiness equals great mood. Great mood equals great day, remember!
Set goals : Rather than watching news or entertainment that add up to stress, opt for books and TED-like talks that are uplifting and help you aspire to be your best. Set realistic goals and fulfil them, this gives you direction for each day. Fulfilled goals give sense of satisfaction and uplift our mood.
Record good memories : At the end of each day, record at least one good memory so that you can glance through these memories in the future and feel good. Read/recall your previous good memories for instant boost of mood.
Live in the present :
“Yesterday is a cancelled cheque,
Tomorrow is a promisory note,
Today is the only cash you have,
So. spend it wisely.”
We cannot alter the past, so obsessing over it doesn’t help. We cannot predict the future, so worrying about it doesn’t help either. Instead, live in the moment and make it the best you can.
Get things done : If you get things done, you will automatically feel great! It inculcates a sense of accomplishment. That makes any day a great day. Isn’t it?
Spend time with loved ones : Another obvious one, but there’s nothing better. Take time out of your day to spend with your loved ones. Be with them, talk with them, bond with them. It works like magic.
These steps, though small, can easily transform an otherwise normal day into a great one. Wishing you a great day, everyday!
