Do you aspire to be the best version of yourself? I do too. I aspire to be my best self each day, every day. To do so, I’ve learned some principles that help myself to be on the right track.

Presenting to you, some of such principles that have helped me live up to my expectations and will definitely be able to help you too.

  • Do what you really want to do. Follow your heart, follow your passion. Life is too short to be running after something that you don’t love. Don’t spoil your chances of being a ‘Master’ in what you love to be a ‘Mediocre’ in what you don’t even like. People might think you are crazy for giving up your heftily paying corporate job to be a singer with an uncertain debut. But don’t give up. Even if it doesn’t pay you good, it would make you happy and give you peace of mind. Always remember, you might not end up being happy even after becoming a billionaire but you will definitely be happy if you stay true to yourself and follow your heart.
  • Combine priority and focus. Make a list of your goals, both short term as well as long term. Carefully prioritize your goals based on their importance and relevance. Delegate the less important ones to someone else, if required. This would leave you with the most important ones only. Focus is the key component of excellence. So, focus on these goals one-by-one. Work on them with full dedication and concentration, giving in your best. When you give in your best, the outcome of it comes out to be the best. And in this process, you eventually learn and grow, becoming your best self.
  • Be positive. All right, this is a bit clichéd but this is absolutely necessary. If you focus on being all-negative about yourself and your surroundings, you are not going to grown. You would be dreaded by the fact of exploring new opportunities because of the slim chances of failure. You would be sceptical about any growth opportunity because you would be concentrated on te ‘WHAT-IFs’ more than the ‘HOW-TOs’. However, if you focus on being positive, you would love exploring your horizons. Even if you fail, you would take it as a learning experience and love the wisdom that it adds to you. It will always be a win-win for you, no matter what.
  • Focus on the actionable. There are two things that you cannot change nor do anything about – One, the past and two, the people. This implies, you should not dwell on your past or get affected by the opinions of the people around you. Concentrate on making your present the best and don’t waste your precious time and energy over people who don’t mean anything to you. You cannot change your past, it has already happened and you cannot change the people also. Focusing on these two things would be plain stupid. So, focus on making the best out of today and don’t change yourself to please others around you.

Spend time with the best. It is rightly said, “We are the average of the five people that we spend our time with.”  The company we keep plays a very crucial role in shaping you. If you live with people who perform poorly, you tend to get dragged down along with them. However, if you live with great performers and achievers, you would be inspired to be your best self. You get to learn so much in the company of good people that helps you grow and develop at a faster pace. So, choose your company wisely.
